I agree. I have seen some cars (BMW and non-BMW) with leather that the leather shows wear after only a year or so, especially where the driver sits. I used to be sold on the idea of leather interior until I looked at the long-term wear/maintenance issue.
: Go to your dealer, or a few dealers, and see a few used cars that have leather or leatherette, and compare them. I ordered the leatherette only after I saw a 5 year old 325 convertible (I think it was a 325), and felt and sat in the leatherette. I liked it, and even after 5 years or use and getting stuff on it (there was what looked like water damage on the center console and carpets), it still felt good. Check out a few used cars that have leather and a few that have leatherette, and then make up your mind. Everything feels good new.
