SUVs are the only thing left they can sell at a profit. I'm wondering when GM will come out with something bigger than the Ford Excursion.
: Or at least require special licensing requirements, so that only people who genuinely need 4WD and are competent drivers who understand the limitations of the vehicle can purchase one.
: That woman should have her license revoked for putting her daughter on the front seat. It's idiots like these who force us to live with those godawful ugly airbag warnings on our sun shades.
: In my years of driving America's roads, I've learned to be scared of the following road hazards in descending order (scariest first):
: 1. Single white or Asian woman in her 20's driving a sub-compact to intermediate fwd sedan or coupe.
: 2. Soccer Mom in her late 30's - early 40's in an Explorer, Expedition, Suburban, or similar rolling ecological disasters.
: 3. High school and college aged boys in their riceboy specials.
: #1 is fearless and seems to have no understanding of the basic physics of stopping, starting, and turning relative to road conditions. They're the ones who zoom past me on a curve right after the first snowfall, and who I see in the ditch seconds later.
: #2 has fear but also shows no understanding of the basic physics of SUVs. Case in point, Rudy's experience. The problem with them is compounded by the fact that the mom-with-kids-in-SUV seem so harmless and benign on the road.
: #3 shows some rudimentary understanding of the physics involved. Like knowing to drive slower in wintry conditions. However, their judgement is testosterone-impaired and they're even more fearless than #1. They only rank third though because they tend to watch their road behaviour more. They know cops pay extra attention to their driver-and-vehicle profile.
: These are honest observations. Not flame bait.
