PETA doesn't like word 'purchase' when concerning pets. They like the word 'adopt'. Of course, you are paying a hundred or so for the dog in the first place ($100 of which I think is refundable after you get them fixed), then a few hundred a year every year in costs to keep the dog.
Well, anyway, about making sure that the dog doesn't do anything to the interior or the car, you could get a dog carrier. It's basically a baby seat for dogs, so that they don't move around. They attach to the car just like baby seat through the seat belts.
what my sister does with her dog is put her in a cardboard box in the front seat, and scoot the seat all the way forward so she can't get out. So far it's worked.
