: The E32 750i/iL had the "switchblade style" keys you're talking about. I actually prefer the keys that the E46 had when it first came out over the new key design... The only really cool feature on the new design is the rechargable battery that gets charged when the key is in the car's ignition.
: FWIW, the current issue of Auto Motor und Sport (German car mag) has an article on different car makers' keys, how much effort they put into designing them, etc. -- primarily as a marketing tool. Looks like people really dig cool keys.
: : The best key i've seen so far is the MB C-class and the New VW keys. They key part folds into the remote part and with a push of a switch it flips out like a switch blade. Really cool and nothing to protrude and poke when its in your pocket.
