: Just finished my first test drive in a 328i this morning. First impressions:

: POSITIVE---Car was larger in person than what I was expecting. I'm currently driving a 96 Accord EX, four cylinder, and I find the 328 to be about the same in the front seat. Only auto 328/323 was available today, but I must say that the pep this car (328)has is so much more than my already peppy Accord EX. Was only able to drive at 70mph today and I was very impressed with quietness of car at highway speed. I thought my Accord was nice and quiet, but the 328 really made an impression. As for looks, the dealer had about 5 different colors on the lot and I kept going back to the white. The trunk was pleasantly larger than what I was anticipating; it's more than adequate and will easily carry my golf bag. I sat in the back seat, and though somewhat constrained, I found the back seats to be quite comfortable. As for sound system, I didn't even try it, as I was busy asking questions to the dealer and just listening to the smoothness of engine and overall soundproofing from road noise.

: NEGATIVES....I wish the 328 seats had another inch or two of thigh support. I was under the assumption that the 328 has a telescoping steering wheel similar to the 528, but no. All 328's on the lot had the wood paneling, and I was not impressed. The wood seemed way too dark for me, with too much gloss...looked almost fake to me. If the wood had been lighter in color maybe I would have thought differently. Like I mentioned, none had the aluminum, and who's to say I would like it better? I don't know how to say this, but the overall dash/interior didn't wow me like I was hoping for. I thought the dash layout looked very similar to my Accord. But hard as it may be to believe, the Accord's have a nice dash to begin with. Matter of fact, that helped me to go with the Accord four years ago anyway, so maybe the similarities on the dash are the reason I wasn't wowed. Back to the seats...I found the 328 front seats to be almost identical to the Accord as far as comfort and adjustment options. On the way out I briefly sat in the driver's seat of new Acura that's the kind of seating I wish the 328 had, but not enough room. I did like the sport seats in another 323, but dealer said the sport seats are not an option unless the whole sport pack is ordered, but I'm not considering that option. Everyone has their little pet peeves, and so I'll say the biggest negative for ME was the front seat. However, the overall quality of the car, especially it's looks and engine, have not caused me to reconsider. I want to visit again soon and test drive a manual and check out the aluminum trim and sound systems. Decisions, decisions.
