I have a 323i with standard seats, and I have very few complaints about them. They are very comfortable, even on long (3+ hours) drives (I'm 6'1", 190#). Sure support is a little weak when cornering, but they're very comfortable the rest of the time. I can't tell them apart (comfort-wise) from my friend's premium-package equipped E46. My only real complaint, and this would apply to all BMW seats I've seen, is how sweaty my back gets on long drives. My friend has leather seating and has the same problem. I guess all 'smooth' non-cloth seats are like this -BMW should have seats like Mercedes which are perforated (and I assume ventilated in some way).

At first I was a little bummed about not having the sport package, but, given the kind of driving I do 99% of the time (freeway cruising), I'm probably better off without it anyway. Also, it will probably make for fewer rattles in the long run, being as the whole car isn't being bounced around so much.
