But what i meant about the comparison to the 5series is that you wont hear as much roadnoise etc. Overall the 5er might be a notch smoother, but i feel that the cabin roadnoise is much more quieter on the 5 than 3. Not really the same as smoothness, but i suppose the lack of roadnoise add's to one's sence of a silkier ride.

: Vic, I disagree with you somewhat on your statement about the 328's lack of a smooth silky ride. I test drove a 328i with standard tires and suspension yesterday, and I couldn't tell the difference in the 328 and a relative's 528 that I have driven. Admittedly, I've driven the 528 on only two occasions and only once in the 328. Technically, I'm sure that in a side-by-side comparison the 528 would be a bit better, but it sure was hard for me to notice. Everything I've read from the media (particularly Edmund's and AutoWeek) all say the the newest 3 series is significantly quieter and better soundproofed when compared to the oler (pre 99).
