I've always known that demos are sold as new cars, but with dealer miles on them. One reason why you don't lease a demo vehicle. The cars are not titled or registered - that's why they have dealer plates that they can put on any car.

Depending on the car, I might consider buying a demo. For example, I bought a 95 New Yorker in 95 for my mom. It was a demo, driven by the owner's wife. Not much beating on that car.

On the other hand, I would never buy a demo of a performance car. Imagine when you are deciding whether or not to buy a 911 or 328 - going to push it first on your test drive? Of course you are. Not so great for the break in period, eh?

You should have seen how the guy who gave me a test drive handled the car - redlined every gear. When I took the car, I was gentle, as I knew somebody would get stuck with the car.
