Part of the reason for the 1 second difference in 328 and 323 autos is that BMW did not change the overall gearing as they did with the standard. The 323 stick has taller differential gearing which makes it accelerate better in each gear. From previous posts, transmission mods will help the car only in that the programming changes to keep you in lower gears more. It does not increase HP or torque to the rear wheels. Engine mods, including cold air intakes and engine computer upgrades and perhaps an underdrive pulley shoud help. Jim C has remarked that the 2.5 has a lot of potential. You might also consider a performance exhaust. Best to start with Dinan- or wait for the Jim C stuff.
