Hi everyone,

I need your collective advice on a paint-chip issue I have. I went to take delivery of a new, factory-ordered Y2K 328Ci today, and, in the process of inspecting the car, found a 3-inch line of paint chips, with each chip about 1 cm in diameter, and deep enough to catch my fingernail, but not to expose primer, immediately behind the sunroof opening on the roof. One theory of its cause is that someone dropped a chain on the roof during transit. The dealer is sending it to a local body shop that apparently does good work, and I will get to decide after seeing the finished work whether I still want the car or not. So I think I have two options:

1. Accept the car after the work, if the repair is good enough (bright red exterior). An issue with this is how it affects the factory body rust warranty, if at all.

2. Order another car. I waited for 12 weeks for this car, and I suppose another 12 won't be that bad. However, nothing is going to prevent the same thing from happening again --- this car had 8.9 miles on it, and was delivered to the dealership only two days ago, so I doubt the second one will be safer. Actually, it's going to be longer than 12 weeks because apparently all of this month's 328Ci slots are not alterable already.

I was quite disappointed walking away from the car today after waiting since the beginning of December for it. To the dealership's credit, my sales guy wouldn't let me accept the car with this flaw.

So I'm looking for comments or advice on what I should do. Consolation's also welcome :-).
