: Thanks for all the advice --- it's really been helpful. I've been reading on Autopia and Carcareonline about paint chip repairs, and I think the body shop should be able to do a good job patching up those chips, so hopefully I'll be able to take delivery of the car later this week. I also realize that rocks and road debris will cause more chips and scratches, so it's not going to be such a big deal for me. Maybe this is my first ding trauma, so future ones won't be so bad ... :-)

: To address some points specifically:

: Rudy, the chips are about 1 to 2 inches behind the sunroof tilt opening in the center of the roof. When you approach it from most angles, it looks like a series of white water spots. They're not visible in the picture you posted.

: Another poster suggested waiting for a 330 ... that's awfully tempting, but the M52B28 is already a well-established engine that's proven whereas the M54B30 is new, so my preference is to go with something more reliably known. I'm not saying the 3.0 is going to be unreliable, but early-production cars have had teething problems in the past, and I'd rather avoid them.

: Thanks to everyone once again. I hope I can write about a great delivery experience in a few days.
