The principal is to not scratch the car. A chamois or an absorber will hold any particles against the paint and act like sand paper. They should only be used if you are extremely careful. The best thing to use is a pure 100% cotton terry cloth towel. Note that most towels that say they are 100% cotton are not. The trim and stitching will generally be polyester thread - which will scratch paint. You can test this by burning a strand of the thread. Poly will emit black smoke and will ball up. Cotton will turn to black ash. The advantage of cotton terry cloth is that it will not hold particles of dirt agsint the paint.
