Can it be new with 11 miles? (archive)

Just bought a "new" 2000 323Ci Convertible off the showroom floor at a dealer in suburban Chicago. It had 11.4 miles logged on the odometer. When questioned, the dealer told me that's not unusual given movement to trucks, from trucks to ships, from ships to port distribution area then onto trucks etc.

So, any thoughts on this?
