Ford Bids For BMW
24/3/2000 - Car giant Ford is believed to have made a formal offer to
buy BMW for £10 billion, according to reports from insiders working
at the German manufacturer.
They warn the company's portfolio would be divided up between Ford
and Volkswagen, with the blue oval getting the lion's share of BMW,
and with Rolls-Royce and Mini being sold to VW. This would let the
Americans get their hands on another luxury marque for the Premier
Automotive Group, which already contains such great names as
Aston Martin and Jaguar. Rolls-Royce would be re-united with Bentley
under VW ownership. Neither company will comment on the reports.
