Was worse during 'Yuppie' era of mid 80s (more) (archive)

: I was wondering if anyone has expierianced Owner Backlash, getting your car vandalized, people cutting you off, etc... My Dad went from a Jeep to a Volvo Wagon, and he said he has noticed more people cutting him off, and getting annoyed at him. We were at the mall and came out and someone keyed his car and we were at the far empty end of the lot.
: I am about to purchase such an expensive car, and I do not want to have to deal with nuts cutting me off, people keying the car, or anything else worse. (BTW My dad said most people cutting his Volvo off owned much older European cars, and were his age; Mid-40's.)

IMO, Back when BMW somehow got stuck with the Yuppie-mobile stigma, people were much more inclined to do this kind of stuff. Sure enough, my '84 was keyed the full width of the hood in a parking lot.

Some of my friends used to even ask me how can you drive a 'Yuppie-mobile'. I let them know I was driving these driver's cars long before such B.S. came along, and I'll continue to long after it's passed.

Even though people are generally less considerate now, I don't think the anti-BMW thing is as bad. Not lone ago, MB owners couldn't keep a hood emblem for more than a week.

Don't let this fear keep you from enjoying one of best driver's cars ever made.
