Please explain what YOU think the difference is between a Steptronic transmission and any other automatic transmission, particularly automatics with a "1,2,3" function like BMW has had for at least 15 years.

Again, its just a slushbox with a gimmicky way of shifting it. Nothing more, nothing less. The gimmick adds NOTHING to the way the transmission performs. A BMW automatic (at least any one in the last 15 years) does not know or care if the operator is shifting it by using a lever, or using a gimmick shifter like the Steptronic "up and down" deal.

Again, nothing against it, but its JUST AN AUTOMATIC. Which is fine for people who want an automatic. Don't mistake it for some kind of significant advancement in automatic tranmission technology, because its not.

: : I assure I can take a nap while my 328ci shifts. This thing is horrible. Freakin thing _never_ holds gear, is mushy and horrilbe.
: : This tranny shifts slower than my 4runner. Feels like a trans from an old Caddy or something.
: : I will hope you have lots more miles than me and that this will get better with age, but, I gotta tell ya, drive my 30 year old Ford, and you'll know how an auto _should_ shift. This thing sucks.
: : disclaimer *for performance*
