your calculations for the manual are probably ok, because you are assuming (and i agree for the manual driver!) that NO acceleration occurs during the time it takes to shift.

however, the step is almost ALWAYS under accleration. the lag as it slips its internal clutch (under WOT!) is almost-imperceptible (certainly not 0.25s), so simply saying that the step is ALSO not accelerating for that whole 0.25s is erroneous, imo.

the OTHER point i continue to make is NOT how fast you CAN shift a manual, but how fast you DO shift it, in the real world, when you're NOT racing, or driving it hard. face it, 99.9% of us spend 99.9% of our time doing normal driving.
THAT is where the step shines!

do i think that the step can hang against a pro driver in a manual? no. as you pointed out, the pro roosted an M3 in your 323i, right? but for everybody else, it's (as usual) a far different story.

just because i can buy Michael Jordan's sneakers, will that give me the power to perform like him? OF COURSE NOT! but it seems that plenty of people on this board think that's all they need to do!!!!
