: I just watched them work on my 2000 323Ci and it's amp was behind the hard plastic side moling in trunk on drivers side. You can see from the trunk where it bulges out a bit. I have just two tips for you, since I did just have one put in, first make damn sure your front speakers will fit into the doors. Mine were just a tiny, tiny bit too big and 2 of the door clips will not clip in. Buy the speakers at the install place, that way they can just swap them out for a thinner speaker if there is a problem. Second, you are going to have some engine whine, seems like everybody does on these BMWs, you will have to detune the system a little to compensate and get less engine whine. Good Luck

I just got a 2000 328 ... great car except for the sound system. I plan on upgrading it with a Precision Power amp (supposed to supports the BMW balanced differential inputs) Boston Acoustics Pro series component speakers in front, and a 10" sub in the rear (thinking about making a custom enclosure to fit in the spare wheel). I will keep the head unit as anything else will just not look right!

: After reading a bunch of posts here, and some info on other sites, I figured it would not be to complicated a job to wire everything from the amplifier harness that is supposed to be behind the driver side trunk cover. Well, I opened it up and NO AMPLIFIER! Just the CD changer wire harness!

: I have the Canadian edition 2000 328i base model. There seems to be 3 Stereo options ... base, "hi-fi", and HK. I have the base. Is it possible that there is no amp, or the amp is in another location? Or am I blind? Everybody seems to say that they have an amp with their non HK system. Is there only an amp in the "hi-Fi" and HK setup? Can I find the wire harness somewere back there?

: Thanks for any info. I want to avoid messing with the head unit.
