I've lived in the NYC area for 8 years, and I have to admit I've never even heard of the Hong-Kong Market on Pike Slip. What's Pike Slip, for that matter?
But I have heard great things about the Golden Unicorn. It's just quite a hike to get into the city with the kids, much less down to Chinatown. As it is, our corner of Bergen County happens to have a very large concentration of great Chinese restaurants. There are literally something like a half-dozen outstanding Chinese restaurants within a 10 minute drive of my house (and I don't mean red vinyl seat Chinese take-out counters, I mean full-treatment sit-down restaurants).
And many of the dozens of local take-out counters are top-notch, as well.
There are even more incredible Japanese restaurants in our area, but I'm not such a huge fan of Japanese food, so I focus on them less.
We feast on Chinese food regularly, safe and sound in the suburbs. For anyone who is interested, I particularly recommend Hong Hing in Westwood, The Peking Duck House in Closter (Peking duck available to order, no advance notice required - awesome!), and Sally Ling's in Westwood.
: Good post and update fuselier.
: For a moment last week, I thought I saw you coming down Broadway. There was a 3er with your semi-rare color choice coming down Broadway past 14th Street in the evening. However, upon closer inspection, this guy had a young lass on his arm, and looks rather chipper. (whether it was the car or the girl couldn't be determined.)
: Speaking of chinese food, if you want to score some points with the Mrs., I highly recommend the 'chow fun' from the spot right next to Hong-Kong Market on Pike Slip. Or, bring the kids in for dim sum at the Golden Unicorn ----- the secret being to not let them seat you on the floor for tourists, qwi-lo and qwi-paw. (white ghosts)
