: 1. even though the wheels might be cheaper, are the tires for 18" rims alot more expensive.

More expensive= Yes. Alot...depends. 18" tires are usually more expensive than 17" tires. They also require more skill in mounting. Which might mean higher mounting charges.

: 2. it was mentioned that 18" don't improve performance over 17", but would 18" be worse off than 17"?

According the test that either C&D or R&T did, 18" decreased skidpad, slalom and braking performance. Don't remember if they tested accelleration performance.

: 3. wheel wise, is hamann alot worse than ACS??? do they weigh very different?

I think weight should be your main concern. If the 18"s(Hamann) weigh less than the 17"s(ACS), then you may wish to go with the 18"s. I'd call each manufacturer for wheel weights. I'd also think that anything over ~23lbs would be unacceptable.

: 4. which one would you go for?

If I was to buy a set of aftermarket wheels, I'd make sure they were lighter than stock...and they would be 17".

: 5. how is the ride of 18" with stock suspension?

Don't have any idea. Have sport suspension and 17" wheels.
