I have the '00 328i with Premium Package. As I was contemplating new wheels and tires, I elected to stay with a 16 inch size rather than upgrade to 17's. I ended up buying BBS RK's in 16x8 and Bridgestone SO2 Pole Positions in 225/50. Here's why:

Although the original equipment Continentals gave a soft ride, they were kind of mushy and I wanted to see if I could improve the handling without increasing the harshness to unacceptable levels. Everything I read told me that the B'stones were excellent tires and hinted that the sidewalls were stiffer than the Conti's. I reasoned that the additional width (225 vs 205) would also help with handling. I had only minor concerns about the low profile of a 17 inch package being more susceptible to pothole damage. So after much agony, I ordered the 16 inch package that you see in the pics, and I am very happy with my choice. The car corners much "flatter", that is less deflection of the sidewall, and the added grip is significant. Although the ride is a little harsher, it really seems like more "road feel" than feeling every little pebble that I run over.
