Had to have my car towed to the dealership today. I'd asked a week or so ago if anybody'd had any problems with their automatic transmission being sluggish when it was hot. My dealer couldn't get me in until Aug 4th to look at it, guess now he's going to have to look a litte sooner.

Engine light had been coming on intermittently since Friday. Not thinking too much of it because it was running fine, I'd check the fuel cap and restart the car, on the forth restart the light would clear. After refueling the car today though, I had a heck of time starting the engine and when it finally did there was no power.

I was only three block from my house so I limped it home. Engine sounded fine, just no power, is there a "limp home" mode to these engines? After it sat waiting for the tow to show, it started fine but engine light is still on and there is no power. There's no slipping, just engine won't rev and it feels like I'm towing an anchor.

Has this been covered before? I seem to remember a few fellows having spontaneous power failures as they were driving, but I don't think they had automatics. I'd just like to have an informed idea of what might be wrong before heading into it, my dealer's service dept isn't the best and I'm hoping it gets fixed right the first time.

For a little amusement, imagine the faces of the sales people when the flat bed pulled up in front of the dealership while they were showing a few couples new cars.

Also, should I have the alignment redone after having it ride on the flat bed? The tug straps looked like they were putting some stress on the wheels and it was bouncing around a bit.

And if you ever have to use BMW Road Side Assistance, hopefully you won't but if you do, their service is top notch. At least in the Seattle area. Call was answered right away, lady was courteous and helpful and the driver was extremely careful.

Thanks, sorry for the long winded message. I was on my way out to go for a "Sunday drive" when this all happened, so now I'm really bored.

It seems to be the throttle body...the dealer will replace it. It's a common problem addressed in the FAQ's above.
