Any service bulletins for engine whining? (m) (archive)

My engine makes an annoying whining sound on the highway when the throttle is partly open. Trying to keep it from whining is impossible- you have to either keep accelerating or take your foot completely off the gas pedal, and coast.

Judging from the people who responded to my post below, it looks like it's a common problem.

Any information on fixes would be great.
