Someone once asked Mike Valentine if they could do this. He recommended strongly against it and explained that part of the logic in the unit for determining number of simultaneous "bogeys" and the direction from which those signals came (particularly the "side" indication) was dependent upon the sensors being mounted in close proximity to each other inside a shielded case (i.e. as the V1 comes from the factory).

If you want a remote mount radar detector, go with a brand that is designed for it...personally, I'd stick with the V1 and not disassemble it.
