Anyway, The ride home from the dealer was terrible. Anyone who lives in NJ and has driven from Rt.22 over the Newark Bay Turnpike bridge at rush hour knows what I mean. So the ride home consisted of traffic, lots of clutching, and no CD's. Not a good combination to enjoy a new car. Road Rage anyone?? Finally got home, I waited 'till the night to drive the car.
Got in and took a cruise around the city. First things I noticed were how smooth and quiet the ride was. Nothing like what I'm used to. The Xenons light up the road very well. The seat is very comfortable and the whole layout is setup perfectly. I love the interior. The alum trim against the black is an awesome combo. The only things I would ask, and I'm being really picky now, would be a lower tilting steering wheel and some other color beside just orange on the gauges (Sorry, but I prefer the Lexus guages.) The torque and power was nice. It's only a 15 second 1/4 mile car so I wasn't expecting anything crazy. Still, there's just a great feel to the engine while accelerating. A car doesn't have to be super fast to be fun to drive. 6000 rpm and powershifts will be really nice after break in. I went down some curvy roads to see how well it sticks. The car is very controllable during hard corners. It soaks up the bumps and there is never a feel that the car is to much to control. It builds a lot of confidence. Turn in is quick and it stays flat throughout the corner. I squealed the tires a few times on some turns but I'm still getting used to driving it. Got lucky, I got the Pilots. The steering, not a problem with it. It's lighter than I'm used to but I don't mind it being a bit light at all. I think it fits the car great. After all, I'm buying a luxury/sport car here, not a true performance car.
Took a ride on the highway on Friday night. Headed down the shore with 3 other people in the car. About 70 miles each way. How smooth and quiet. It soaked up all the NJ Turnpike bumps and holes. Roll the windows up and I can have a nice conversation at 70mph. This is dangerous. Got on the Garden State Parkway south and had some fun. It's the break in period, so I had to vary my speed, right? 65mph was here for a while, then 70, then 80, then umm 90, 95, uh oh 102, better slow down to 100, dam break in period. This car was as easy to drive at 100mph as it was at 65. The only difference was the sound of the engine. I had an A4 playing with me during the ride. Couldn't really race though, only 4500 rpm for me. Besides, I think it was an S4? Too quick for the 330.
This car is sooooo much fun to drive. It puts a smile on my face every time a get in it. I now see why everyone loves it so much. It's hard to really understand anyone's write up until you've driven one yourself. It's hard to put the feelings you get from the 330 into words. There's not one specific thing that makes this car what it is. It's just a complete totally balanced package. I can keep going on, but I'll save that for a later date. This was long enough. Just one other thing. The car I had before this. Don't laugh, but this is what I'm comparing (at least the performance) to anyway. 1988 Camaro Z-28 with lots of work and mods. It ran high 13's in the quarter mile and it outhandled most other cars out there. If anyone's interested I'll post a pic. Also I'll have to get some pics of the 330 on here too.
