"The BMW's in general are a bit quicker, but mainly a lot more lively and responsive. This is Mercedes' dilemma with the new C Class. Whatever the target, it still doesn't have the sporty drive of the 3 Series. It's comfortable but at the expense of handling feel, although having said that, it is noticeably better in terms of underlying handling balance than its predecessors. What it isn't is a BMW challenger."
"This would not be a big issue except Mercedes specifically said it was chasing 3 Series type driving dynamics. It should stick to its own character and not try to emulate BMW. The C Class is an excellent Mercedes, but it's no BMW."
Now, I know you're skeptical of this review, because you think it might be biased, since the name of the publication is "BMW Car", but I've found that the magazine is usually more critical of BMW than most.
Nice try Mercedes. Better luck next time.
