Go with the 330 or a used 540 instead (what I did) (archive)

I would really consider the 330. Before making my ultimate decision, I drove a 323 and 328 and there was no way I would buy a 323/325 with an auto due to the lack of torque. With the introduction of the 330, the difference is even larger. To me, the 323 stick felt about the same as the 328 auto.
In the end I decided to go with a used 540 (six speed) for about the same money, but with more room, features, and most importantly, POWER.
