Most say that if you are really concerned cut the intervals in half and pay. I thought there was something in the FAQ section concerning data aquired about loose particles in the oil after break in, when an oil change was performed, and when one was not and they found that there was no significant difference, but I can't seem to find it. I have 5,000 miles on my 328Ci and will change my oil at the 7,000 mark or so. BMW probably wouldn't risk their reputation over saving money on scheduled maintenance. So I don't believe waiting will hurt your car, but if it makes you feel better, go for it.
