If you want more of a driver's car, go with the BMW. Something that I think is endemic in all Mercedes, save for the AMG ones, is that the driver is more of a passenger. You don't really feel like you're driving(I've driven several MBs, from a 560SEL and S600 (last generation) to a C230K and a CLK320, as well as an ML320 and an ML55). If you enjoy driving, I think the BMW would suit you better. If image is a factor in your decision, note that the 3-point star tends to be more prestigious than blue and white propeller. You do trade off driving feel and sensation with the C-Class for that added prestige, though.
