Dean,

here are my main resons for picking the 330:

1) i wanted a new car, not used. on a car like an M3, i was afraid the one i would purchase would have been driven pretty hard (that's what i would do, especially if i leased it)..i was worried about wear basically.

2) the 330 was just fast enough to suit my needs..it handles well, and rides a little softer than the M3..my 914 has koni yellow's all the war around with 140lb springs and rides like a rock..it bugs me on long trips..the 330's comfy, yet it still seems to handle well..

3) i could get a longer warranty on a new car than used. i plan on keeping it for a while, and would like it to be under warranty for as much of that time as possible..

4) although i like the E36 body style, the E46 intrigued me.

my friend's brother has a 98 M3, which does ride a little stiff for Bay Area driving..it would be great on the track, but i don't intend to take it there...if i auto x, i will use the 914..it will beat the M3 in the corners, just not the straight :).

hope this helps.

Nick,

It's sounds like your sports car tendencies are similar to mine. I own a 1987 Porsche Carrera and a 1997 Supra Turbo. Like you, I am considering a low mileage 98-99 M3 vs new 330Ci. What factors swayed your decision to get the 330Ci?

Thanks,
Dean
