"Clears" replace the amber lenses on your car with clear lenses. Some people (not all) prefer this look. See the picture below.
Regarding your question on removing bird droppings, etc., using the gas station window fluid, a couple of thoughts:
1. Grit and dirt are your paint's real enemies. And you don't know what is in the water or fluid the squeegee has been sitting in. Also, the towels used for cleaning windows are usually too harsh for a paint's finish.
2. Any fluid is better than none, but the key is not to scratch the surface when removing anything. The website www.carcareonline.com recommends going into the gas station, getting some seltzer water, shaking it up, and then using the spray to remove the bird dropping. The bubbles and the spray pressure helps remove the offensive stain "touch free".
3. Bird droppings are acidic, and should be removed as soon as possible.
4. Never use the squeegee to clean stuff off your car's paint. Better to use a scratch free material and BLOT, don't rub, to avoid swirl marks or scratches.
You might want to think about doing what I do... carry a couple of cotton cloths and a bottle of griot's "show off" detail spray or meguiar's "final inspection" spray to remove particles you notice in the parking lot, and use those instead of just "what's handy" at the time. You know that stuff will be on your car from time to time, so keeping cleaning materials in your trunk is cheap insurance.
