The BMW accessory nav system for the E46 (the one you can order from their accessory catalog) is a unit that's the same height as the radio/cd player or climate control unit (i.e. it fits in the space below the climate control unit) and has a small orange monochrome screen that displays the info. Frankly, given the size of the screen, it doesn't seem particularly useful unless you are the type that can handle a "voice-only" nav system since the screen seems much too small to be able to read anything with a quick glance.
