I'm new to this board, so I don't have any preconceived hatred of you or your thoughts. But as a recent buyer of a 330ci, I would like to respond. I'm 40 years old and have driven many different cars over the years - more importantly, I'm a gear head and until recently wouldn't think twice of adding twin Webers and headers to a car while under the shade tree. I have also invested in racing schools and understand handling and the importance of driving skill. So I DO know cars better than most.

I simply can't agree with your post based on evidence out there. I take an unabashedly Eurocentric view on automobiles - and every euro road test out there has had nothing but stellar reviews of the e46 which confirm my own experiences. The e46 is an excellent evolution - all that is happening is that the competition is finally starting to address this market segment. That doesn't make the e46 a bad car. The is300 is a nice car, but it is affectatious in its execution and sells well because it's considerably cheaper. The MBZ 320 is also a nice car but still caters to the luxury buyer or someone who wants to "look" sports oriented. The BMW horsepower boost came so soon because the body was ready before the engine - so it spent a year as the 328, that's all. There was no mad scramble. And as to the increase in competition - I welcome it. We as consumers will all win.
