wacky engine temperature? (archive)

Hey, has anyone had any problems with the oil temp. gauge on their 2000 328Ci? Usually, within 5 minutes of highway driving, the temperature gauge goes a little past the halfway mark- I assume this is "warmed up".

But over the past week, I've noticed whenever I push the engine (ie. past 160 km/h) for short spurts on the highway, the oil temp starts dropping!! It then stays put just above the blue mark for the duration of engine operation.

This doesn't make any sense, since, if anything, the oil temp. should be going up with the sustained higher speeds.

Has anybody had this problem?
