how come new 330s don't get new transmission? (archive)

the new z3 3.0 liter engine got new transmission and steptronic's and manual's 0-60 time is about the same. step=6.0s, manual=5.9s. I was wonder how come BMW don't give 330 a new transmission like that? damn
