Basically I'm trying to get songs and then burn them onto CDs to play in the OEM CD Changer.

1) Should I care about the bitrate listed for the songs I find? Will too high a rate screw up the CD player? Too low?

Yes...go for 128 or higher. If you have a fast connection, pay particular attention to the speed at the other end. It will range from 56k to T1; the faster the line on the other end, the faster your download will be. Also, pay attention to the "Ping" column; the lower the ping, the faster the download.

2) Does burn speed matter? My CD-Recorder will do 2x, 4x, or 8x.

I have a 4x, and if I use good CD stock, I don't have any problems. If your CD stock is rated for the speed of your machine and is one of the name brands, you shouldn't have a problem.

3) Does the type/brand of disc matter? If so what's the best? I heard that silver CD-Rs are better than others. Is this true? If so what's the reason?

It's hard to say whether brand matters for the short term...you'll get a lot of different answers to this question. Also, some CD players are more finicky than others. I find that by using name brands (Mitsui silver, TDK, Maxell, Fuji are among my favorites), you pretty much stay out of trouble. There is also a site called www.cd-recordable.com that makes CDs in bulk; I have had good luck with them. Prices are coming down so much that there's really no reason NOT to buy the big name brands.

4) If you don't buy jewel cases how do you label/store your CDs?

I burn a lot of CDs, and I store most of my homemade CDs in paper sleeves with plastic windows. Checkout www.cdroutlet.com for some good deals for all sorts of storage ideas. I'm not affiliated with the company, but I buy from them often.

Thanks in advance!
Rex
