As to the original poster (330Xi for power, or 325xiT for utility), it sounds like you have a personal dilemna. You (or your wife) need to make a basic decision. For me (and this is only MY opinion!) the marginal utility of the 330i's added power is negligible. It doesn't help me do the things I like to do. Remember though, the 325T isn't called a "Sport/Touring Wagon" for nothing! It might be a wagon, but it's no slouch either.
Me? I'm basically a wagon guy (5-speed, AWD). I find that it provides all the power I need/want (and more) for the things I like to do. I don't go to the track, I'm not interested in killing IS300s off the line, and hole shots just don't thrill me. But I really like the utility the wagon offers for our more active lifestyle.
In the end though, (and demonstrating a firm grip of the obvious), it's your personal taste that counts. You gotta make your own decision here, bud.
I like the utility the wagon offers, but it's hard to pass on the increased power and refinement of the 330. The fold-down rear seats in the 330 could help with "hauling" stuff and then you could still "haul". Also, you can get a roof rack for the 330, but I don't know if it will accomodate mountain bikes -- check with the dealer.
I like the styling of the 325xiT, and right now I'm leaning in that direction. I guess the next step is to drive them again and make a decision. I'll be sure to post what I decide.
Good luck,
