To each his own. For you who prefer ette, so be it. The decision to select a seating surface preference is not solely based on wear or the quality of the leather! You etters are just jealous cheapskates. If you prefer not to shell out $1450 for leather that's your business, but stop trying to make those who prefer leather feel like they made the wrong decision. Some do prefer to sit on dead cows.


Saw 3 BMW 5 series 1998, 1998, and 2000 at the BMW used lot with torn leaherette seats. On the 2000 vehicle the pastic tubing on the drivers bolster was noticeably worn. On the 1998 model there was a separation of the seam on the drivers bolster. In the other car the leatherette on the drivers seat was torn in several places most notibly on the upper seat and lower seat bolsters.

I will stick with leather. Although it may age worse it is certainly better than a torn seat. At least with the proper care the leather can remain soft and supple in the years ahead.
