Similiar story here..

in fact, I just got back from dropping my car off at the dealer. I mentioned this in an earlier post yesterday, but basically, the pads ground into the rotors creating a 2mm deep groove. The feel of the brakes was fine, but I noticed by a horrible grinding sound.

Repair cost ? $425 front, $400 rear. yeouch!
yes, this does sound wrong! What is the pad replacement interval on other cars ? Maybe they put harder pads on the E46's so they 'last longer', but they cause this exact situation!

grrrr

I own a 1999 323i:
BMW replaced my brake pads and rotors @ 10,000 miles since they were warped from someone settintg my brake on the ship from Brussels. Now I have 36,000 miles and the dealer tells me that I need new brake pads and rotors all around and I have to pay for it! does anyone know if this is a normal time frame for OEM pads/rotors to wear or are they jerking me around? ANY COMMENTS WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED :-)

signed,
Mad as hell!
