I own a 1999 323i:
BMW replaced my brake pads and rotors @ 10,000 miles since they were warped from someone settintg my brake on the ship from Brussels. Now I have 36,000 miles and the dealer tells me that I need new brake pads and rotors all around and I have to pay for it! does anyone know if this is a normal time frame for OEM pads/rotors to wear or are they jerking me around? ANY COMMENTS WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED :-)

signed,
Mad as hell!

Go to a different dealer and tell them you're feeling a shake/vibration when you're braking at high speed. If they blame that on the warped rotor tell them to look up a Technical Service Bulletin for brake vibration in '99 E46 models, TSB number: 340798. The fix for it is to replace the rotors and lower control arm.

What you experience is common with pre 9/'99 production E46es, most refer to it as the "brake shimmy". It's caused by a faulty design in the suspension components and it should be fixed as a recall, not something out of your pocket.

Be sure to demand the TSB be performed on your vehicle.
