that the top end cars from BMW, MB, Ferrari, Porsche, Rolls-Royce, Lamborghini, Lotus, etc. have also bought into the "hype" for the last 100 years or so.
I bet you can't wait for the day of vinyl couches, vinyl dress shoes, vinyl briefcases, vinyl belts, etc. (or maybe you are leading the revolution by having that stuff already?). People will be smart enough to figure out that leather, as a material, is just "hype." It may take another couple hundred years, but I'm pretty sure it will happen.
I don't think vinyl is bad, but face it, people get it only because its cheaper. If it were the same cost as vinyl, EVERYONE would get leather. Some people have enough $$ to buy the leather, AND new skis and boots. People have been saving money by buying vinyl for a long time, its nothing new, but in the past at least people were honest about it as strictly a cost savings measure.

that most people take hype over function..

my 325XiT alpine/black vinyl looks and feels and functions pretty good - and I bought great new skis and boots on the money I saved..
