front armrest in a 325 (archive)

Test drove a 325 with premium package today. I really like the front center armrest. However, I am told it is only available with the premium package. Is that true? If I don't get the PP, what is in the middle of the front seats? Nothing to rest your elbow on at all? If that's the case, can it be ordered as a separate option? Thanks for the help.
