Why oh WHY do pretty much ALL new cars have a locking retractor ont he pasenger side, including BMW? I'm not talking about the locking action under ard braking or cornering, I'm talking about when you pull the belt out too far and then let it back in, it locks, even if the car is standing still and not even running. I understand it's for the fitting of child seats, however any halfway intelligent person NEVER puts the child seat in the front. It's a major annoyance for passengers. Is there ANY way to disable this, in a 3-Series? Without of course impacting on the pre-tensioners or legitimate locking action, I don't want to compromise safety, I want to eliminate an annoyance. The driver's side does NOT have this problem, so why does the passenger?
