Why do US cars have less torque?? (archive)

Strange but outside of the US market (i.e. Europe ) the 323 and 325 have the same Torque at the same engine speed (181LB ft @ 3500rpm, the 325 having 192hp whereas the 323 had 170hp (okay SAE v DIN etc. offsets a little of the hp difference but its still more than the US vehicle).

Anyone tried fitting a Euro ECU to a US car??? Might be a cheap power upgrade if you can find one out of a scrapped euro car.
