I have been considering the purchasing a new 3 series coupe but have been hesitating due to the fact of reliability. I have spoke to many BMW owners in my area and they absolutely love their cars, but they also say they are in for repair more than they are on the road. I am not here to compare apples to oranges. I would just like some comments from other people. One of my BMW friends informed me of this forum, so I thought I would give it a try. In the past five years I have owned two high end japanese (Oh! I said it) sports coupes. Both of which never saw the dealership except for scheduled maintenance. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

i mean it's fun for the first year but when you realize you have to live with it every day it gets tiresome. When the car is new9or new to you) those niggles won't really be a distraction but after a while it is irritating to some.
Coupled with the short gearing of the manual shift cars, the car can get tiresome very fast. I mean why is was the 240 hp E36 M3 almost as fast as the 321 hp european M3??? the gearing of course. 2nd gear couldn't make 60 mph which slowed the 0-60 times becuase the magazine testers had to shift into 3rd gear. So bmw changed the gear ratios slightly,
but still in traffic jams, going 10 mph at 3000 rpms in 1 st gear 15 mph at 3000 in second gear gets cumbersome.
that's a defect that not counted as one. Of course with 170 or 184 hp, bmw had to do something but it is downright a short cut. and the automatics use gm transmissions. they aren't the most durable either. they may be smooth at first but it takes way to long for it to shift into 2nd or 3 rd when cold. the dealer says it's because the car needs to warm up..

I don't buy it.. and I won't in the future

and the fan is hella noisy. the fan speed in pos. 2 or 3 is as loud as the lexus is at full blast and isn't even as efficient. and it's very complex to use.

no more bmw for me
