How to remove road salt from carpets? (archive)

Does anyone know a good way to get road salt out of the floor carpets? It's almost impossible to make it through a Minnesota winter without ending up with some of it on the carpet, no matter what kind of floormats you use. Would appreciate any suggestions, and sorry if this has already been covered before.
