Mix 1 part Woolite to 6 parts water and put it in a spray bottle. Spray a moderate amount onto your entire carpet area, concentrating on the salty areas a bit more. Then whip out your plastic scrub brush (don't use metal, it'll tear up the carpet) and get to scrubbin. It will suds up quite well, keep scrubbing for a few more minutes. Then get out a bunch of cotton towels and wipe away the foam. Soak up as much of the moisture as possible, lightly "buffing" as you go along to raise more of the dirt/grime out. Let it air dry (just leave your doors open for a few hours) and it should be good as new.Works on floormats too.
Also, don't forget to scotch guard once it's completely dry.
