There is only so much the standard box is designed for (hence the ability to buy ECIS etc). Thus the combustion is forced to increase without oxygen, not always a good situation i think. It should really be done properly: intake, chip, exhaust at the minimum. The factory stuff is designed for x amount of a variable (air etc) and hence increasing it will not allow it to be optimal anymore and the application would need to be redesigned.
