The power pours on above 4000 rpm. The engine throws out the most wonderful howl up between 5000 and 6000.

I love screaming down a downhill highway onramp in 2nd, shifting to 3rd only when forced to do so at redline, and riding 3rd all the way up to about 60 or 65 mph.

Just as much fun is riding a highway-to-highway cloverleaf interchange at 40 or 45 mph in 2nd gear. Engine howling, lots of power still in reserve for merging onto the new highway, that fantastic handling carving around the loop...mmm, mmm good!

The engine isn't overwhelming, but it will push you back into your seat well enough, if you keep the revs high. Hence the need for my beloved Steptronic! A regular autotranny - or the Step in D mode - turns the engine into a silky, docile, but low-energy pussycat.
