My 1998 E36 328i was always in the shop too (6x a year). My 1994 Integra GS-R was also a ton of problems (exhaust manifolds, electrical issues, battery, etc...). I was happy to see that car go (and it was my dreamcar at the time).

My 2001 330i has been flawless for 11 months and 13,700 miles! Not a single thing, or even a reason to visit the dealer... amazing.

Every car is different. On the whole, BMW's are very reliable. Considering the thousands of parts involved, I am amazed cars are this reliable anyway.

There is no correlation between price and reliablity.
